Here are some of the projects we engaged in in 2022.

MERRY THIEVES BLLC has run a community studio called Salton Studios since 2020. It provides free access to training, gear, resources, studio time, and other forms of support to independent creators, non-profits, civic organizations and more.

In 2022 MERRY THIEVES BLLC began working working on an Augmented Reality app to share stories from Utah’s past. We continued on our previous path of telling stories about Utah’s historic women. 2020 ANNUAL SOCIAL BENEFIT REPORT

To whom it may concern,

In accordance with 2018 Utah H.B. 186 - Benefit Limited Liability Company Act. 48-4-101/402, this report is intended to provide information to members and the general public regarding what social benefits MERRY THIEVES, BLLC provided in 2020.

Overview

You heard it here first: 2020 was a very strange and difficult year. MERRY THIEVES, BLLC had previously relied heavily on film production of events. With the pandemic, we had to reinvent ourselves several times and adapt to rapidly changing social conditions. We are very proud of our successes and the progress we made. It was a year of new partnerships and opportunities that we are very excited to continue developing far into the future. We were able to focus even more this year on our social benefit goals.

Salton Studios

In 2020, MERRY THIEVES, BLLC set up Salton Studios, a community broadcast and multimedia studio. We advertised the availability of resources including a 900 sq. foot studio, audio, video, lighting, crew, and live streaming equipment to the general public for free to anyone interested in learning and using the equipment. We also provided in-person and online training on the available resources on our youtube channel. Members were invited to help with our various social causes to whatever level they were comfortable in exchange for access to our resources.

Areas of Focus

Our areas of focus in regards to providing a social benefit included:

  • Arts

  • Air Quality

  • Women’s History

  • History

  • Homelessness and Housing

  • Permaculture

  • Immigration

  • Skills Training

  • Financial Literacy

  • Government

  • Public Safety

We worked with non-profits, government entities, and private companies to work towards these goals.

Non-Profit and Social Focused Work

MERRY THIEVES, BLLC has continued to focus primarily on partnering with nonprofit and government entities to advance our various goals. In 2020, we focused generally on the following issues and partnerships:

iPads for Artists

Under our iPads for artists program, we donated iPads to budding new artists in exchange for a small amount of donated work to one of our social causes listed above. Our goal was to provide budding artists with a powerful tool for multimedia production in order to enable them to further advance their artistic goals. We are very proud that at least one of these artists fully embraced the opportunity and was able to step away from full time work and transition to self-supported artistic work.

We were further able to provide these artists with paid work from our commercial clients and social partnerships.

Hiring Inexperienced and New Artists

For our commercial and social partnerships, we sought out several inexperienced artists and provided them with paid jobs to help them build their portfolios and experience.
